Here you will find the projects funded by the BMBF of the MaterialDigital call for proposals, including a brief description of the project content and the consortium working on the respective problem. For even more information on the MaterialDigital initiative and the funded projects of the first call, the BMBF has published a brochure.
The PMD-X projects aim to showcase the connection between the MaterialDigital platform and the industrial dataspaces in prototype form. These so-called 'breakthrough projects' are very short, lasting only one year, and focus on the interfaces between PMD and Catena-X, Manufacturing-X and AeroSpace-X. These projects are primarily worked on by industrial partners.

The MaterialDigital 3 projects are led by industry and now only include a few academic partners. The projects began in 2025 and are still in their early stages.
The MaterialDigital 2 projects originated from the second call for proposals by the BMFTR (see the PMD handout). This funding opportunity was open to both industrial and academic partners. The projects began between September 2022 and January 2024, and are now approaching the end of their funding period.
