GLASAGENT - DRIVING GLASS INDUSTRY INTO THE DIGITAL FUTURE

Project runtime: 01.01.2025 - 31.12.2029

Glasses are key components of modern high technologies. Thanks to their wide variety of compositions, their chemical and physical properties can be specifically adjusted and optimally integrated into new product composites. Current areas of interest include among other optoelectronic applications.

The challenges for glass as a material lie in its development, production and recycling. The state of the art in development is non-standardized, largely intuition-driven processes, some of which are still carried out by hand and need to be replaced by simulation-based systematic procedures and automated laboratories.

The overall objective of the alliance is to first expand the glass ontology developed of the "GlasDigital" project in order to map all materials, processes and computer simulations of the “GlasAgent”, including recycling, and to build on this to develop an algorithm according to which all expediently automatable processes run independently, including simple decision-making, and whose linking follows a software-controlled workflow, which in turn pursues the goal of representing the glass specification resulting from the planned application with an ecologically optimized process. There will be interfaces that enable human experts to supervise the workflows in line with the algorithm. This algorithm will be implemented as far as possible in hardware and software and tested using exemplary glass developments.

The partly experimental work organized by the “GlasAgent” is to be supported and accompanied by a “digital twin”. At the beginning of a development process, this includes deriving the target specification of the glass from the product understanding with the help of a computer simulation. Parallel to the further work of the “GlasAgent”, suitable material and process simulations are carried out using artificial intelligence and glass-specific semi-empirical models.
